Nuclear Magnetism in Solid Methane
For more than 30 years, the observation of nuclear magnetic interactions in solid methane has given valuable information on the reorientational dynamics of its molecules. Recently, measurements of some basic properties of nuclear absorption lineshapes, such as the. integrated intensity and the second moment, have revealed the rates at which the populations of various molecular orientational sta...
متن کاملHELIUM , SOLID 1 Helium , Solid
Helium was first solidified at the famous Kamerlingh Onnes low-temperature physics laboratories in Leiden by W. H. Keesom [1] on June 25, 1926. The initial experiments by Sir Francis Simon at Oxford University and by Keesom and their collaborators focused on the melting curve, the specific heat, and the thermal conductivity of solid helium as a test of our early understanding of solids. These m...
متن کاملMagnetism in disordered graphene and irradiated graphite.
The magnetic properties of disordered graphene and irradiated graphite are systematically studied using a combination of mean-field Hubbard model and first-principles calculations. By considering large-scale disordered models of graphene, I conclude that only single-atom defects can induce ferromagnetism in graphene-based materials. The preserved stacking order of graphene layers is shown to be...
متن کاملProbing the helium-graphite interaction
Two separate lines of investigation have recently converged to produce a highly detailed picture of the behavior of helium atoms physisorbed on graphite basal plane surfaces. Atomic beam scattering experiments on single crystals have yielded accurate values for the binding energies of several· states for both 4He and 'He, as well as matrix elements of the largest Fourier component of the period...
متن کاملHigh-yield exfoliation of three-dimensional graphite into two-dimensional graphene-like sheets.
Edge-functionalized graphite (EFG) is prepared via a "direct" covalent attachment of organic molecular wedges. The EFG is dispersed in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone with a concentration as high as 0.27 mg mL(-1), leading to high-yield exfoliation of the three-dimensional graphite into two-dimensional graphene-like sheets.
